The first grant of $4,500 gives incoming students the opportunity to start their college careers at Western with an outdoor adventure, just like Chris did. With the Wilderness Based Orientation Program scholarships, students discover what the great outdoors has to offer in the Colorado backcountry. Participants build friendships and get to know the incredible recreational opportunities that Gunnison has to offer.

The second grant of $2,500 will be directed to the Wilderness Pursuits program to purchase equipment. Wilderness Pursuits provides fun low-cost and professional-quality co-curricular outdoor expeditions and resources for WSCU students.
