Funded ProjectsColorado backcountry awaits Western students

October 30, 2017

For the ninth year, The Chris Mikesell Foundation is supporting the Western State Colorado University Foundation, Chris’ alma mater.

A $5,000 grant gives incoming students the opportunity to make new friends and experience the amazing recreational opportunities Gunnison has to offer before their first semester, just like Chris did. With the Wilderness Based Orientation Program scholarships, students discover the great outdoors in the Colorado backcountry. Students can choose from excursions featuring activities like whitewater rafting, rock climbing, multi-sport adventure, mountaineering, whitewater kayaking, sea kayaking and backpacking.

The second grant of $2,000 will be directed to the Wilderness Pursuits program to purchase equipment. Wilderness Pursuits provides fun low-cost and professional-quality co-curricular outdoor expeditions and resources for WSCU students.
