Funded Projects2022 Funded Project: Clearwater Community Foundation
Funding New Adventures
In memory of their son and brother following a tragic accident, Kendall and Sherry Mikesell and their daughters, Laura and Julie, launched the Chris Mikesell Foundation in 2008. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $300,000 in grants to organizations honoring Chris’ adventurous spirit, passion for travel, and love of people. Now, years after his tragic accident, the Chris Mikesell Foundation continues to support opportunities for young people to experience nature by providing financial support to various local organizations.
Gathering Friends and Family in the Community
In 2022, the Chris Mikesell Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to the Clearwater Community Foundation in Clearwater, Kansas, to support the Mikesell Home Tree Pocket Park Project in partnership with the City of Clearwater and the Clearwater High School Class of 2001. The funds donated have provided a Home Tree (climbing rock) for the use and enjoyment of local youth, which now serves as a gathering place for families within the community. The newly designed playground area offers a fun and safe space for children to get outside and experience nature, and the addition of a Home Tree will continue to provide new opportunities for children to stay active outdoors. Previously, the Clearwater City Park was gifted a tree house to remember Chris, and as the equipment is updated, the City is excited to continue honoring Chris with the new dedication in April of 2023.
