Offering All Children an Equitable Chance

UNICEF USA works to relentlessly pursue an equitable world for every child in the United States. They aim to advance the global mission of UNICEF by rallying the American public to support the world’s most vulnerable children. The organization offers each child an equitable chance in life by providing health care and immunizations, access to safe water and sanitation, nutritious meals, quality education, emergency relief, and more. With the help of the American public, UNICEF has helped save more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization.

Prioritizing the Needs of Young People

In honor of Chris’ adventurous spirit, love of people, and passion for travel, the Chris Mikesell Foundation aims to support organizations that offer assistance to people in desperate need worldwide. In 2022, the Foundation provided a $4,000 grant to UNICEF USA, which furthered their efforts in the following areas:

Vaccine Procurement

In 2022, UNICEF continued to lead the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history, ensuring almost two billion COVID-19 vaccine doses were delivered to 146 countries.
Water Systems

In Uganda, UNICEF is building solar-powered water systems in schools as part of a five-year program with the government that will ultimately benefit 56,000 children.
Improved Internet Access

Giga, an initiative between UNICEF and ITU, is working to connect every school to the Internet and bring information to every young person. It maps schools’ Internet access in real-time, creates models for innovative financing, and supports governments contracting for connectivity.

Mobile Medical Teams

In Syria, UNICEF is supporting mobile medical teams, already screening 723,733 children and 187,436 pregnant and lactating mothers for malnutrition during the first half of 2022 alone.
School Food Programs

In Venezuela, UNICEF is supporting school feeding programs in 318 facilities, reaching some 88,000 children.
Bridge Fund Program

UNICEF USA’s Bridge Fund reached a milestone of $500 million in accelerated funding to UNICEF. This impact investment tool helped accelerate funds to Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Pakistan and ensure UNICEF’s speedy response.
